The Yakima Memory Project: Digitization Process

Scanning Procedure

FOR BLACK AND WHITE IMAGES:
Open Adobe Photoshop
Click File
Click Import
Click Microtek Scan Wizzard Pro...
Check Type: Gray Scale
Check Dynamic Range: Automatic
Check Resolution is at 600 ppi
No Corrections should be made during scan
Place picture on scanner
Click Overview
Size the marque to the image
Click Prescan
Size the marque to the image
Click Scan
Close the Scan Wizard
Click File
Click Save As
Select where you want to save to in the Save in: box
Click format as PNG (*.PNG)
Type in accession number as file name
Check box As a Copy
Click Save
PNG Options box select None then click OK
Click Image
Click Image Size
In Resolution Box type in 300 Pixels/inch
Click OK
Click Select
Click All
Click Image
Click Adjust
Click Levels
Click Auto
Click OK
Click Filter
Click Sharpen
Click Unsharp Mask
Amount: 100 %
Radius 5.0
Threshold 0
Click OK
Click File
Click Save As
Select where you want to save to in the Save in: box
Click format as TIFF (*.TIF)
Type in accession number as file name

FOR COLOR IMAGES:
Open Adobe Photoshop
Click File
Click Import
Click Microtek Scan Wizzard Pro...
Check Type: RBG colors
Check Dynamic Range: Full Range
Check Resolution is at 600 ppi
No Corrections should be made during scan
Place picture on scanner
Click Overview
Size the marque to the image
Click Prescan
Size the marque to the image
Click Scan
Close the Scan Wizard
Click File
Click Save As
Select where you want to save to in the Save in: box
Click format as PNG (*.PNG)
Type in accession number as file name
Check box As a Copy
Click Save
PNG Options box select None then click OK
Click Image
Click Image Size
In Resolution Box type in 300 Pixels/inch
Click Filter
Click Sharpen
Click Unsharp Mask
Amount: 100 %
Radius 5.0
Threshold 0
Click OK
Click File
Click Save As
Select where you want to save to in the Save in: box
Click format as TIFF (*.TIF)
Type in accession number as file name
Click Save
Tiff Options Box Select IBM PC
Click OK
Close Image Box

Processing through CONTENT

Open Contentdm
Acquisition
Click Open Project
Select Yakima Memory
Click OK
Type in User Name and Password
Select Batch Add
Seclect Add all files from a directory
Click Next
Click Browse
Select file where tiff images are being stored
Click OK
Click Next
Click Yes, the files are full-resolution files
Click Next
Click Auto Generate Display Copies
Click Next
Click Finish
Double click Icon to open up Media Editor
Input data
Click Save
Click Upload After all data has been entered for images
Type in user name and password
Click ok
